Flight Instructor

CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (Rotorcraft Helicopter)
This course is for pilots who hold a commercial pilot certificate with a helicopter rating and wish to obtain a flight instructor certificate. A flight instructor certificate allows a pilot to give flight instruction and to make endorsements required for pilot certification.

Prerequisites:
1. Be at least 18 years of age.
2. Hold either a Commercial or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate with Rotorcraft Helicopter category and class rating.
3. Instrument rating (if applying for Flight Instructor certificate with an instrument rating).
4. Hold a current FAA Medical Certificate.

Part 61 Requirements:
A person who applies for a Flight Instructor certificate with a Rotorcraft category and Helicopter class rating must:
1. Log at least 15 hours as Pilot in Command in Helicopters.
2. Pass a Fundamentals of Instructing Written Knowledge Test.
3. Pass a Flight Instructor Written Knowledge Test.
4. Pass an FAA Oral and Practical Flight Test.

Cost Breakdown (Based on FAA Minimums):
• Flight Instruction: (S300CBi) 15 hours at $430/hour: $6,450
• Ground Instruction: 20 hours at $65/hour; Can be more or less based on students’ abilities: $1300
              *An FAA approved home-study course can be
                completed in lieu of Ground Instruction. Self- study
                courses must be approved by Angels 1 Aviation before
                student enrollment: $250
• Fundamentals of Instructing Exam: $150
• Flight Instructor Knowledge Test: $150
• Books and Supplies: $150-$200
• FAA Practical (Flight) test & Aircraft Rental $1,265 ($900 Examiner, $365 Aircraft)

$9,515 (HPS Ground Instruction)
*$8,265 (Home Study Course)
